GP Triage – what you need to know

From 7:30am on Monday 5 October, we will be introducing GP Triage for online appointment requests. This will replace our current Klinik system.

GP Triage will be available Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:30pm, in line with our previous Klinik opening hours.

In many cases, GP Triage will allow you to book an appointment immediately, without having to wait for the practice to contact you.

Important information about the changeover

  • Klinik will no longer be available to patients from 2pm on Friday 2 October.
  • From 2pm on Friday, we will only be able to accept urgent appointment requests by telephone.
  • If you have a routine request, please submit it through Klinik before 2pm on Friday, or wait until 7:30am on Monday 5 October, when GP Triage opens.
  • If you need an urgent appointment on Friday afternoon, please call the practice. Our usual telephone arrangements will apply.

How will GP Triage work?

From Monday 5 October, when you need an appointment or help from the practice, you will use GP Triage to tell us what you need.

You will be asked a series of questions about your symptoms or request. The information you provide will help us understand what you need and identify the most appropriate next step.

Depending on your request, you may be able to:

  • book an appointment immediately;
  • receive advice or information about another appropriate service;
  • be asked to provide some further information; or
  • have your request reviewed by a member of the practice team where this is needed.

This means that, in many cases, you will not have to wait for us to contact you before you can arrange an appointment.

How do I use GP Triage?

The process is straightforward. You will be guided through the questions and told what to do next based on the information you provide.

Please answer the questions as fully and accurately as possible, including information about your symptoms, how long you have had them and anything else you think may be relevant.

The same video will also be shown when you first access GP Triage, so you can watch it then if you prefer.

Is GP Triage safe?

GP Triage is designed to help us understand your needs and direct you to the most appropriate care.

The questions you are asked help identify the nature and urgency of your request. The information you provide is important in helping us determine the most appropriate next step.

GP Triage does not replace clinical assessment when this is needed. Depending on the information you provide, you may be directed to an appropriate appointment or service, or your request may be reviewed further by a member of the practice team.

Our aim is to make it easier for you to access the right care while ensuring that requests are dealt with according to their clinical need.

What if I need urgent or emergency help?

If you need an urgent appointment during our opening hours, please use GP Triage from Monday 5 October. If you are unable to use the online system, please contact us by telephone and a Patient Navigator can input the request on your behalf.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, do not use GP Triage. Call 999.

When does GP Triage open?

GP Triage will be available:

Monday to Friday
7:30am – 6:30pm

It will launch at 7:30am on Monday 5 October.

We hope the new system will make requesting help from the practice quicker and easier, particularly by allowing many patients to arrange an appropriate appointment immediately rather than waiting for us to contact them.
